Tower Foundation design Considerations

Types of Tower Foundations:
Pad and Pier: These are typically used and are constructed by excavating a hole and filling it with rebar and concrete as per the drawings. Pad and pier foundations are suitable for Monopoles and SST’s and can be used as support for guy towers. This foundation is usually less expensive than a drilled pier and can be installed relatively quickly.
Drilled Pier or Caisson Foundations: Drilled Piers are constructed by drilling into the ground and placing steel reinforcement bars as per the design then properly filling it with concrete. Drilled Piers have significant resistance to uplift and axial loads. This foundation is usually more expensive however it does not need a large footprint on your construction site.
Construction Process:
Underground Location: Underground location services should be contacted several days before excavation is to begin.
Site Preparation: The construction site must be cleared of any vegetation, debris, or obstacles that could interfere with the foundation construction process.
Excavation: The ground is excavated to the desired depth and width, depending on the type of foundation being constructed.
Reinforcement: Steel bars are placed inside the excavation to reinforce the foundation.
Pouring Concrete: Concrete is poured into the excavation and allowed to cure for several days. Concrete Test Cylinders should be collected and tested as per the drawings.
